Simple Notepad used Calldorado to 10-fold ad revenue within one month.

The Challenge
Simple Notepad, a popular app for taking and sharing notes, was looking for alternative monetization models to supplement their existing banner and interstitial ads. With a user base of 370,000 the monthly advertising revenue would not go beyond $200, indicating that in many cases Simple Notepad was simply a zombie app sitting unused on thousands of phones. Consequently, Simple Notepad needed a monetization method that allowed them to monetize beyond their active user base.

The Solution
Simple Notepad integrated the Calldorado caller ID SDK. One month after releasing the new version in Google Play the app earned an additional $2200 /month. The SDK allows the app to show caller ID screens after phone calls in connection with advertising. Because caller ID works regardless of whether the user has the Simple Notepad app open or not, it has the ability to reach both active and inactive users. That way, Simple Notepad earns incremental revenue even if users have stopped using the app. Based on this result, the developers of Simple Notepad decided to remove in-app ads to get a smoother and more user-friendly experience of the app’s core functionality.

After including the Calldorado SDK, Simple Notepad has been successful in increasing active users from 14 % to 33 %, which means that 19 % more app users open and use the core functionality of the app. Simple Notepad has been successful in increasing traffic to the app through the Engagement Field ‘Take a Note’ which appears on every caller ID screen. The Engagement Field encourages app users to get back into the app through deep linking, and is an efficient way of re-engaging active and inactive users.

As an added bonus, after having Calldorado implemented for a few months, Simple Notedpad started to rise in Google Play’s rankings, likely due to the increase in active users, Subsequently, the number of users downloading the app increased with 43 %(!) at the time this article is written, compared to before Calldorado was implemented.

When implementing the SDK, all Simple Notepad users get notified automatically about the new caller ID feature. The information is shown as a pop-up after the first call, when upgrading or installing the app. This pop-up explains the feature in combination with the option to customize or even disable the feature completely in the settings menu.
